Slings and Arrows or a Vitamin or two?
WASHINGTON, DC – Horace Mann High School Senior Roger Murphy received national attention yesterday after being praised by First Lady Elizabeth Hunt earlier in the week for his outstanding interpretation of Hamlet. The precocious high school senior proved last night to millions of listeners of the Kathy Loomba’s Radio Show that the First Lady was right, serious learning does occur in the public schools.
Murphy who is earning money for college by selling vitamins and starring students in adult movie art films got immediate public praise, heard around the country, when he encouraged a 14-year-old caller, concerned about her married boyfriend’s intentions, to be flexible. "As the old Dane would say, life’s too short to worry if it’s to be or not to be," he told millions of young listeners. "Just get a hot video, pop some vitamins, and go with the flow."
Kathy Loomba, overwhelmed with caller response, invited Murphy back for another one-hour interview. In closing, after providing what some believe to be was a refreshing interpretation of Shakespeare, Murphy rhetorically asked listeners, “Which is healthier – to suffer the slings and arrows or to flee from a sea of troubles with a vitamin or two?"
Roger Murphy and Kathy Loomba are fictitious characters in Joe David’s outrageously funny book, Teacher of the Year.
