Muralist Protests Censorship
WASHINGTON, DC – Horace Mann High School Student Mimi Flicop was outraged to learn that the management of Bali’s Department Store today removed from display her latest painting entitled "The Big Dipper." The painting, which had been privately exhibited in the men’s room at the trendy store, was denounced by management as "obscene" and destroyed it.
The prolific artist, known for her uncommissioned office building murals of nudes entwined, told reporters that The Big Dipper was one of her greatest works. "I was proud of that painting," she told a reporter. "It took me nearly two weeks in space studying the constellation before I could even start on it." When asked how she took such a space odyssey, the outspoken senior replied simply: "With a cigarette."
School superintendent Phyllis Jaffe, dressed handsomely in military surplus, told reporters outside La Cage Aux Folles Night Club that she is quite excited about Mimi’s phenomenal experience. "I think it’s time the government starts encouraging teenage smoking," she said. "As Mimi has proven, this could be an excellent way to get kids interested in astronomy again."
Mimi Flicop and Phyllis Jaffe are fictitious characters in Joe David’s outrageously funny book, Teacher of the Year.
